Divergent Fitness Trainer Certification

Whether a minor or an adult, individuals of all ages with neurodivergent conditions and the associated somatic errors have difficulty finding fitness and movement facilities and instructors tailored to their unique needs. That’s why we offer the Divergent Fitness Neurodivergent Trainer Certification.

Upon completing this rigorous program administered by Indiana University and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), our trainers will be qualified to work with this underserved population and launch a career helping neurodivergent individuals and their families live more fulfilling lives.

Our Four-Level Neurodivergent Trainer Certification Program

In collaboration with Indiana University and the ACSM, Divergent Fitness offers motivated individuals the opportunity to receive certification as a neurodivergent trainer. We believe that certification involves more than simply learning new concepts.

It also includes instilling the trainee with the confidence to serve neurodivergent individuals successfully. We think of it like black belt training, where each step adds more skills and competence..

The four levels of the program are:

  1. Weekend Seminar (2 days): Learn the foundational knowledge of what Autism is and how to coach athletes on the spectrum.
  2. Coach’s Week (3 days): Spend three days at Divergent Fitness or an affiliated facility guided by an expert
  3. Mentoring Program (6 months): Receive guidance and feedback from experts for your program (virtually or in person), including case studies, coaching analysis, guided readings, lectures, and applying what you learn firsthand.
  4. Gym and Trainer Certification and On-Site Visit (2 days): A seminar staff coach will visit the participant’s gym/location and observe for two days.

What Do We Expect from a Certified Trainer?

Upon certification, we expect the trainer to work independently with neurodivergent individuals, assess their conditions and resulting functions, and prescribe the proper protocols to address and improve those conditions by reducing somatic errors.

For example, when the trainer meets with a potential client suffering from acute anxiety, they need to be able to identify anxiety as the condition and develop a fitness plan from the protocols at their disposal.

What Can Trainers Expect from Us Following Certification?

Divergent Fitness and partner Strong Fit are collaborating with Indiana University, UCLA, and other companies in developing and disseminating new treatment protocols. Once certified, trainers will receive regular updates to existing protocols and implementation guidance for new ones.

We are pioneering new techniques in treating neurodivergent conditions of all types with fitness and movement, and we commit to keeping our trainers at the forefront of this field.
